The inaugural 'Smart Bangladesh Run 2024' competition took place at Hatirjheel in the capital amidst a jubilant atmosphere today. The ceremony was graced by the esteemed presence of Zunaid Ahmed Palak, State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology, who presided as the chief guest, as stated in a press release issued by a2i.
Aspire to Innovate-a2i, in collaboration with the ICT Division, orchestrated the event under the thematic banner of 'Step into the Future: Run for Mission 2041,' as elaborated in the press release. The primary objectives of the event were to advocate for a healthy lifestyle among citizens, foster the development of a Smart nation, and kindle awareness and enthusiasm for the Smart Bangladesh Vision 2041 within the populace.
Commencing at 6:00 am in front of Hatirjheel's amphitheater, the race concluded at the same location. A notable participation of 2041 amateur runners was observed across four distinct categories: women, men, individuals over the age of 50, and those with disabilities. Distinct events were tailored for participants in the 7.5 km category, comprising separate races for women, men, and individuals aged over 50. Additionally, a specialized one-kilometer category catered specifically to runners with disabilities. The determination of winners was facilitated through a chip timing system, ensuring accuracy and fairness in the adjudication process.
10 wheelchair athletes of Bangladesh Wheelchair Sports Foundation were participated in the wheelchair category of this event. Mr. Abu Rayhan was the champion and Mr. Md. Tanvir was the runner up of the wheelchair categoyr.
